IMSBC Bulk Cargo Finder (group, MHB, density)
Search IMSBC Code solid bulk cargoes by bulk cargo shipping name and read off the group, MHB hazard, IMDG class, bulk density, stowage factor, and carriage data, all on one page.
Type a bulk cargo shipping name in the search box, or filter by group, MHB hazard, or IMDG class. Select any result to expand its detail: the group, the MHB hazard or IMDG class, bulk density, stowage factor, angle of repose, and the transportable moisture limit applicability. The finder covers 350 solid bulk cargoes.
About This IMSBC Bulk Cargo Finder
This IMSBC bulk cargo finder is for bulk carrier masters and deck officers, charterers, shippers, and surveyors who need the IMSBC Code carriage data for a solid bulk cargo fast. It searches 350 cargoes by bulk cargo shipping name and returns each one’s group (A, B, or C), MHB hazard, IMDG class and UN number where it is dangerous goods, bulk density, stowage factor, and angle of repose, so a single page answers what previously needed one page per cargo.
The data follows the IMSBC Code, the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code, which is mandatory under SOLAS Chapter VI (and Chapter VII for dangerous goods in solid bulk form). The Code sorts every cargo into Group A (may liquefy above the transportable moisture limit), Group B (a chemical hazard, either dangerous goods or a Material Hazardous only in Bulk), or Group C (neither). Type a bulk cargo shipping name to narrow the list, or use the filters for group, MHB hazard code, or IMDG class.
It replaces hundreds of near-identical single-cargo pages with one searchable reference. Each result expands to a summary list: the group with its plain-language meaning, the MHB classification or IMDG class and UN number, the principal hazard, bulk density and the derived stowage factor, the angle of repose, and whether a transportable moisture limit applies. The group is color-coded, Group A deep blue for liquefaction risk, Group B amber for chemical hazard, Group C teal for low hazard, with a red flag on cargoes that may liquefy, and every entry shows the IMSBC Code amendment it reflects.
Data source and accuracy
The authoritative data is extracted from the IMO IMSBC Code (Amendment 05-19, resolution MSC.462(101)) with the in-force Amendment 07-23 (resolution MSC.539(107)) overlaid, so each cargo reflects the current schedule where the freely published amendment covers it. A smaller number of cargoes carry data from an earlier internal compilation that could not be matched to the Code source; those are marked Unverified and shown gray, and must be confirmed against the in-force Code before use.
Treat this finder as a fast first reference. The applicable individual schedule in the in-force IMSBC Code edition, read with the shipper’s cargo declaration, is definitive for group, stowage, segregation, and carriage. Group A carriage is governed by the certified transportable moisture limit against the declared moisture content; the can test is a screening check, not a certificate. A cargo’s group can vary with its source, grading, and moisture content. The transportable moisture limit is a per-shipment certified value, not a Code constant, so this finder shows only whether a TML applies, not a number.
