Driverless rail-mounted stacking crane.
An Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry (ARMG) is a driverless stacking crane that runs on fixed rails along a container yard block, performing storage and retrieval moves under the terminal operating system without an operator in the cab. Twin and double-cantilever ARMG arrangements raise throughput per block. Compared with rubber-tired gantries (RTG), the rail track gives precise positioning suited to automation and lets the crane draw shore power rather than burning diesel. ARMG blocks pair with AGVs or shuttle carriers on the waterside and truck interchange on the landside, and are the yard backbone of high-density automated terminals.
