Auxiliary Oiler Replenisher (AOR)
E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcementDefinition
Combat-logistics ship providing fuel and stores.
A US Navy fleet-replenishment oiler in the AOR hull series, designed to deliver diesel fuel, jet fuel (JP-5), and a limited stores load to deployed ships by connected and vertical replenishment. The Wichita class (AOR-1, commissioned 1969) carried fuel plus ordnance and provisions, blending the AO oiler and AF/AFS stores roles. Most AORs were decommissioned by the late 1990s; their multi-product mission passed to the AOE fast combat support ship and the T-AKE dry-cargo ship operated by Military Sealift Command.
