Booking confirmation

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Carrier confirmation of liner space booking.

A booking confirmation is the carrier’s or forwarder’s acknowledgment that liner space, equipment, and a sailing have been reserved for a shipment, returned to the shipper after a booking request. It states the booking number, vessel and voyage, the load and discharge ports, the cut-off times for the shipping instruction and verified gross mass, the container type and count, and the pickup or empty-release reference. It is not a contract of carriage and confers no title; the bill of lading later supersedes it. The shipper relies on the cut-off dates in the confirmation to lodge the SI before the documentation deadline.
