Bulk Wood Carrier
E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleetsDefinition
Specialized log/wood-chip carrier.
A bulk carrier configured for forest products: logs, sawn timber, wood chips, pulp, or pellets. Log and timber carriers carry deck stows secured by stanchions and lashings, with stability checked for the high vertical center of gravity of a deck cargo. Wood-chip carriers are high-cube, large-hold ships with low stowage factor cargo (around 2.5 to 3.0 cubic meters per tonne), often fitted with self-unloading conveyors. Wood cargoes carry IMSBC Code hazards: oxygen depletion and self-heating in enclosed holds.
