Bunker Convention 2001
A4. Other IMO and ILO conventions and codesDefinition
International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage.
The International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001, fills the gap left by the CLC, which covers only persistent cargo oil from tankers. In force from 21 November 2008, it imposes strict liability on the shipowner for pollution from bunkers (a ship’s own fuel) and requires ships over 1,000 GT to carry insurance, with limits tied to the LLMC.
