A Bunker Delivery Note (BDN) is the document the fuel supplier provides on each delivery, required by MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 18. It records the fuel mass, density at 15 degrees C, sulphur content, and a supplier declaration that the fuel meets Regulation 18.3 and the relevant sulphur limit. The BDN must be kept on board for three years and is available for port State control inspection. Each BDN is accompanied by a sealed representative MARPOL fuel sample retained for twelve months under Regulation 18.8.1, the reference sample in any compliance dispute.
