Bunker Surveyor
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Independent surveyor certifying bunker quantity and quality.
A bunker surveyor is an independent inspector who attends a bunkering operation to certify the quantity and quality of fuel delivered, checking tank soundings, temperature, density, and the bunker delivery note required under MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 18. The survey protects the buyer against short delivery and off-specification fuel, a frequent source of dispute. Sampling follows the MARPOL-mandated representative sample for the ship’s retained copy.
