Busan Maritime Cluster

F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and Institutions

Definition

Korean port-city maritime industry hub.

The maritime-industry concentration at Busan, South Korea, the country’s largest port and one of the world’s busiest container hubs. It combines container handling at Busan New Port, shipbuilding-support services, ship repair, bunkering, and ship management with the Busan Port Authority and Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU), the national MET institution. Busan anchors Korean container shipping and feeds the broader Korean shipbuilding base; Korea P&I and crewing operations cluster here alongside the port pilots.
