The Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate attests that a cargo ship’s life-saving appliances, fire-safety systems, navigational equipment, and signaling gear meet SOLAS requirements, issued under SOLAS I/12 on Form E after survey under regulation I/8. It covers SOLAS Chapter II-2 fire protection, Chapter III life-saving appliances, and the navigation equipment of Chapter V, with a Record of Equipment (Form E) appended listing the actual outfit. It applies to cargo ships of 500 GT and upward on international voyages, runs up to five years under the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification, and is subject to periodical and annual surveys.
