Connected Worker (Marine)
E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shippingDefinition
Wearable + comms platform for crew safety.
Connected worker (marine) describes wearable sensors and communication devices that link crew or terminal staff to a central system for safety and task support: location beacons, fall and man-overboard detection, gas and heat-stress sensors, push-to-talk over IP, and augmented-reality glasses that stream a defect to a shore engineer. In enclosed-space entry, personal gas monitors and tracking address a documented fatality cause; SOLAS II-2 and the IMO enclosed-space-entry drills (resolution A.1050(27)) frame the operational need. The platform routes alerts through a shipboard server and edge gateway rather than constant satellite uplink.
