Damage stability booklet

C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical management

Definition

Booklet on residual stability after damage.

The damage stability booklet is the approved onboard document that shows a ship’s residual stability and survivability after defined flooding casualties. It carries the subdivision and damage-stability calculations required by SOLAS Chapter II-1 Part B-1 (the probabilistic standard, attained subdivision index A against required index R) and, for relevant ship types, the deterministic cases. It gives the master the limiting conditions, cross-flooding arrangements, and damage-control information so the ship meets the survival criteria after side or bottom damage. It works alongside the intact stability booklet and the damage-control plan, and class approval is a statutory condition of the Passenger Ship Safety or Cargo Ship Safety Construction certificate.
