F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

German production cruiser-racer brand.

Dehler is a German builder of performance cruiser-racers, started by Willi Dehler in 1963 making dinghies in a former cinema foyer in Freienohl; brother Heinz joined and the first sailboat, the Varianta, launched in 1966. Dehler built early fiberglass production cruisers, including the db1 in 1980 and the Dehler 34 in 1986, pitched as fast, stiff family boats. The brand passed through several owners and now sits within the Hanse Group. Dehler hulls carry the racing-rigged but cruise-equipped profile that defines the cruiser-racer category.
