Document of Compliance

The DOC, the ISM Code certificate issued to the company (not the ship) confirming its Safety Management System has been audited and meets the Code for the ship types it operates. It is valid five years subject to annual verification, and a copy must be held aboard each ship. Without a valid DOC for the relevant ship type the company cannot lawfully operate that vessel; the per-ship counterpart is the Safety Management Certificate.
