ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System)

ECDIS is the SOLAS-mandated electronic chart system that displays Electronic Navigational Charts with the ship’s own position, integrating GNSS, gyro, log, radar, and AIS to plan and monitor a voyage and to give safety-contour and anti-grounding alarms. Carriage became mandatory in phases between 2012 and 2018 under SOLAS V/19. It must use official ENCs and stay updated, and it carries cyber exposure through chart-update media and network connections that demand disciplined patch and media control.
