Fire Control Plan
A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codesDefinition
Required under SOLAS II-2/15.
A fire control plan is the posted ship plan showing fire-control stations, fire-resisting boundaries, detection and alarm systems, fixed extinguishing installations, escape routes, and ventilation controls for each deck. SOLAS II-2/15.2.4 requires fire control plans to be permanently exhibited for the guidance of the ship’s officers, with a duplicate set stored in a prominently marked weathertight enclosure outside the deckhouse for shore fire-fighting personnel. The symbols follow IMO resolution A.952(23). The plan must reflect the as-built fire-protection arrangements of SOLAS Chapter II-2 and is checked at the equipment survey supporting the Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate.
