Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU)
B5. Ship Types and Individual VesselsDefinition
LNG import unit.
A floating storage and regasification unit is a vessel that receives, stores, and regasifies liquefied natural gas at an offshore or jetty berth, sending out gas to a shore grid through a high-pressure manifold, so it serves as a marine LNG import terminal without onshore regasification plant. Many are converted or purpose-built LNG carriers fitted with regasification skids. Their faster deployment and lower fixed cost than a land terminal drove a wave of orders for European energy supply from 2022.
