Required under MARPOL Annex V Regulation 10.
The Garbage Record Book logs every garbage discharge, incineration, and landing to a reception facility, required by MARPOL Annex V Regulation 10 for ships of 400 GT and above and ships certified to carry 15 or more persons. Entries record date, position, garbage category, and estimated volume, separated into the categories of the revised Annex V (MEPC.201(62), in force 1 January 2013), now MEPC.277(70). Each entry is signed and the book is kept for two years. Annex V prohibits discharge of plastics anywhere and restricts food waste and cargo residues by distance from land and special-area status.
