Globe-class container ship
B5. Ship Types and Individual VesselsDefinition
19,100 TEU Maersk class.
The Globe class is a five-ship series of 19,100 TEU container vessels built by Hyundai Heavy Industries for China Shipping Container Lines, with lead ship CSCL Globe delivered in November 2014 as the largest container ship in the world at the time. The ships are about 400 m long, 58.6 m wide, and draw 16 m at full load, and now operate under COSCO Shipping Lines on Asia-Europe service. The class is not a Maersk series; that mislabel confuses it with Maersk’s Triple-E. A single MAN B&W 12S90ME-C main engine of about 56 MW drives each ship near 21 knots. The Globe class held the size record only briefly before the 19,224 TEU MSC Oscar took it in 2015.
