Greenwich Maritime World Heritage Site

F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and Museums

Definition

UNESCO-listed Maritime Greenwich.

Maritime Greenwich was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 for its concentration of buildings and institutions central to British maritime and scientific history. The ensemble includes the Old Royal Naval College by Christopher Wren, the Queen’s House, the Royal Observatory that fixes the Prime Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time, and the National Maritime Museum. Together they document the link between navigation, astronomy, and sea power. The clipper Cutty Sark sits nearby on the riverside.
