Guarantee Engineer
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
New-build manufacturer's representative.
The guarantee engineer is the shipbuilder’s or equipment maker’s representative who sails on a newly delivered ship during the warranty period to monitor performance, rectify defects, and train the crew on new machinery. The role bridges the gap between the yard’s design intent and the operating crew, and the engineer’s defect reports feed the builder’s guarantee claims. The post is temporary, lasting through the guarantee voyage or the first months of service.
