Hazardous Materials Inventory (IHM)
B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and RecyclingDefinition
HKC/EU SRR mandated IHM Part I.
The Inventory of Hazardous Materials lists the type, location, and approximate quantity of hazardous materials in a ship’s structure and equipment, so that they can be managed safely through service and at recycling. Part I covers materials in the structure and equipment, Part II the operationally generated wastes, and Part III the stores. The Hong Kong Convention and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation both require Part I to be maintained throughout the ship’s life and verified at survey, with Parts II and III added before the ship is sent for recycling.
