Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)

Hydrotreated vegetable oil, also called renewable diesel, is made by hydrotreating vegetable oils, animal fats, or waste oils into paraffinic hydrocarbons chemically similar to fossil diesel, so it drops into existing engines and tanks without blending limits. Unlike FAME it has good cold-flow and storage stability and a high cetane number. Its well-to-wake carbon saving depends on the feedstock, with used cooking oil and tallow scoring far better than virgin crop oils.
