The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, founded in London in 1889, is the international professional body for marine engineers and marine scientists, with a Royal Charter and the right to register chartered engineers and chartered marine technologists. IMarEST sets professional standards and continuing professional development, publishes journals and technical papers, and represents the profession at the IMO as a non-governmental consultative organization. Membership offers a chartered credential alongside the STCW Certificate of Competency.
