IMDG Code Amendments
A1. The IMO and the international regulatory frameworkDefinition
Biennial cycle with one-year grace, settled through CCC and MSC.
The IMDG Code is revised on a two-year cycle to stay aligned with the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. Each amendment is prepared through the CCC Sub-Committee, adopted by the MSC, and applied with a one-year voluntary transition period before it becomes mandatory. Amendment 41-22, for example, became mandatory on 1 January 2024 after a voluntary period from 1 January 2023.
