IMO Model Course
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Standardized training course documents published by the IMO.
An IMO Model Course is a standardized training-course document the IMO publishes to help maritime training institutions deliver STCW-compliant courses to a common standard. Each model course gives a detailed syllabus, timetable, and learning objectives mapped to the relevant STCW competence table, from radar observation to tanker familiarization. Institutions adapt the courses to local needs while preserving the competence outcomes, supporting consistent certification across flag states.
