Installation manual
B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and RecyclingDefinition
Manufacturer document used during retrofit.
An installation manual is the manufacturer’s document that specifies how a piece of marine equipment is to be mounted, connected, and commissioned aboard ship, used by the yard during newbuilding and by repair yards during retrofit. It gives foundation and alignment tolerances, torque values, electrical and piping connection details, clearances, and the commissioning and test sequence the maker requires to keep the warranty and the type approval valid. For type-approved safety equipment, fire detection systems, lifeboats, BWTS, the installation must follow the manual to hold the certificate. Deviation without the maker’s written agreement can void approval and class acceptance.
