International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoCA)
E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and riskDefinition
Voluntary standard for PSCs.
The International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoC), launched in Geneva in November 2010, is a voluntary multi-stakeholder standard requiring signatory private security companies to respect human rights and international humanitarian law in their operations. The ICoC Association (ICoCA), established in 2013, governs membership, certification, monitoring, and complaints. The Code drew on the 2008 Montreux Document on private military and security companies. In the maritime context it informs the conduct of PCASP and private maritime security companies, complementing ISO 28007 certification for firms providing armed guards aboard ships.
