International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations (IFSMA)

The International Federation of Shipmasters’ Associations, founded in 1974 and based in London, is the global federation of national shipmaster and master mariner associations. IFSMA holds non-governmental consultative status at the IMO, where it represents the professional interests of serving masters on safety, fatigue, and criminalization issues, and works alongside the Nautical Institute on professional standards. It speaks specifically for the command function rather than for owners or the wider workforce.
