Definition

SOLAS-related freeboard certificate.

The International Load Line Certificate is issued under the 1966 Load Line Convention after survey, certifying the assigned freeboard and the position of the deck line and load-line marks for a vessel over 24 m on international voyages. It is valid up to five years subject to annual and renewal surveys, and must be carried aboard. Overloading past the applicable seasonal mark is a load-line offense and a direct stability and reserve-buoyancy risk.
