International Shore Connection (ISC)
A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codesDefinition
Required under SOLAS II-2/10.
The International Shore Connection (ISC) is a standardized flanged coupling that lets a shore facility or another vessel feed water into a ship’s fire main when onboard pumps fail. SOLAS II-2/10.2.1.7 requires every ship of 500 gross tonnage and above to carry at least one ISC built to the Fire Safety Systems (FSS) Code dimensions, with facilities to use it on either side of the ship. The bolt-circle, flange, and gasket dimensions are fixed so any compliant fitting mates worldwide. Inspection at fire-safety survey confirms the connection, bolts, washers, and gasket are stowed together and accessible.
