J/80
F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
International one-design sport keelboat.
A 26.25 ft (8 m) one-design sport keelboat from J/Boats, designed by Rod and Alan Johnstone and introduced in 1992. The J/80 carries a fixed fin keel, a retractable bowsprit, and an asymmetric spinnaker, crewed by four to five with no trapeze. It is an International class recognized by World Sailing and races in large one-design fleets and as a match-racing boat. The simple sprit-and-asymmetric layout made it an early template for the planing sportboat format that spread across club racing.
