Laser 4.7, ILCA 4

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Smaller-rigged ILCA class for younger sailors.

The Laser 4.7, now the ILCA 4, is the smallest-rigged version of the single-handed Bruce Kirby Laser dinghy (hull 4.23 m / 13 ft 10 in), fitted with a shorter lower mast section and a 4.70 square metre sail for lighter and younger sailors. It shares the one-design hull with the ILCA 6 (Radial) and ILCA 7 (Standard), the Olympic rigs. World Sailing renamed the Laser the ILCA Dinghy after a 2019 trademark dispute. The 4.7/ILCA 4 itself is a youth class, not an Olympic rig.
