LNG terminal

C4. Ports, terminals and coastal/marine civil engineering

Definition

Onshore or offshore LNG receiving or export terminal.

An LNG terminal receives, stores, and regasifies imported liquefied natural gas, or liquefies and exports it, transferring cargo at minus 162 degrees Celsius through insulated marine loading arms fitted with powered emergency release couplings. Berth design accommodates the carrier’s size and the strict mooring and passing-ship limits that protect the cryogenic transfer, with breasting and mooring dolphins rather than a continuous quay. Safety zones, ship-shore link monitoring, and the ISGINTT and SIGTTO guidance govern the transfer operation.
