Guidelines for using ISO 15016 in EEDI verification.
MEPC.1/Circ.815 is the IMO 2013 Guidance on Treatment of Innovative Energy Efficiency Technologies for Calculation and Verification of the Attained EEDI, issued 17 June 2013. It tells manufacturers, shipyards, owners, and verifiers how to credit energy-saving technologies in the Energy Efficiency Design Index. Technologies are sorted into categories: category A covers devices that shift the speed-power curve such as air lubrication, raising Vref or cutting propulsion power; categories B and C cover auxiliary-power savers such as waste-heat recovery generation and photovoltaic systems. The circular was superseded by MEPC.1/Circ.896 in 2021, which added wind-assisted propulsion. The seed one-liner tying it to ISO 15016 in EEDI verification is incorrect.
