National Yacht Club

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Various clubs of that name, including Ireland's at Dun Laoghaire.

National Yacht Club refers to several clubs, most notably the one at Dun Laoghaire on Dublin Bay, Ireland. It traces to a Kingstown boat club whose members met in November 1869 and laid the foundation stone for the present William Sterling clubhouse in 1870, formally constituted in 1871 as the Kingstown Royal Harbour Boat Club. After name changes through the late nineteenth century it became the National Yacht Club, a still-active Irish keelboat and dinghy racing club on Dun Laoghaire harbour.
