Nordic Folkboat

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Tord Sunden-designed traditional Scandinavian keelboat.

A 25 ft 2 in (7.68 m) traditional Scandinavian keelboat first built in 1942, drawn by Tord Sundén from a winning entry in a 1941 Swedish design competition organized to produce an affordable people’s boat. Sundén drafted the plans, though the credit is contested with Jac Iversen. The clinker-built wooden sloop has a long keel, low freeboard, and a small fractional rig, crewed by two to three. The Nordic Folkboat remains a strong one-design racing and cruising class across Scandinavia, Germany, and the UK.
