Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Generic offshore support vessel.

A workboat that supports offshore oil, gas, and wind operations, carrying deck cargo, drilling fluids, fuel, water, and provisions out to rigs and platforms and returning waste and equipment to shore. The category covers platform supply vessels (PSVs), anchor-handling tug supply vessels (AHTS), and multipurpose support vessels (MPSVs). OSVs typically carry dynamic positioning (DP1, DP2, or DP3 per IMO MSC/Circ.645 and MSC.1/Circ.1580) to hold station near installations. Many operate under the IMO Offshore Supply Vessel Guidelines and class OSV notations.
