PSV (Platform Supply Vessel)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Offshore vessel resupplying platforms/rigs.

A Platform Supply Vessel is the workhorse of offshore logistics, a flat-decked ship that resupplies drilling rigs and production platforms with deck cargo (pipe, containers, equipment) and below-deck bulks (fuel, water, drilling mud, brine, cement) carried in dedicated tanks. PSVs typically run dynamic positioning for safe approach to a platform’s working side. They are distinguished from anchor-handling tug supply vessels, which add towing and anchor-deployment capability.
