Pure car and truck carrier
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
PCTC vessel.
A pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) is a deep-sea roll-on roll-off vessel built only for wheeled vehicles: cars, trucks, buses, and high-and-heavy units such as tractors and construction equipment. It has multiple fixed and hoistable car decks, internal ramps, and a stern or quarter ramp, and capacity is measured in car-equivalent units (CEU), with large units around 6,500 to 8,000 CEU. Decks are adjustable in height to carry both cars and tall machinery, distinguishing the PCTC from the earlier pure car carrier. Cargo is driven aboard and lashed to deck securing points per the cargo securing manual; there are no containers, so units load and discharge through the ramps.
