Renewal Survey

A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codes

Definition

Survey at intervals not exceeding five years.

A renewal survey is the full survey carried out at intervals not exceeding five years to reissue a statutory certificate. Under the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification it confirms that the hull, machinery, and equipment fully satisfy the applicable requirements and supports issuing a new certificate with a fresh five-year validity. It examines the ship more thoroughly than the annual or intermediate surveys.
