Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is a Chinese maritime university in Shanghai whose roots trace to 1909. It awards undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across navigation, marine engineering, logistics, and maritime law, and its certificate-of-competency courses are accredited to STCW 1978 as amended (Manila 2010). One of China’s principal maritime higher-education institutions alongside Dalian Maritime University, it combines academic degrees with seafarer training recognized by the China Maritime Safety Administration.
