Smart Container

A smart container is a shipping container fitted with IoT devices reporting GPS position, internal temperature and humidity, shock, and door-open events over cellular or satellite backhaul, with reefer units adding remote setpoint control. The data gives shippers and carriers real-time visibility, cold-chain assurance, and tamper and theft alerts across the door-to-door journey. The main barriers are battery life, connectivity gaps at sea, and the cost of fitting and managing devices across very large box fleets.
