E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel.

A Standby Vessel, or Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel, stations near a manned offshore installation ready to recover personnel from the sea and provide a refuge in an emergency such as a platform fire, blowout, or helicopter ditching. ERRVs carry fast rescue craft, large-scale recovery systems for people in the water, and survivor reception and first-aid facilities. In the UK and Norwegian sectors a standby vessel is a regulatory condition of operating a manned installation.
