Star
F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
Two-person keelboat designed by Francis Sweisguth, Olympic 1932 to 2012.
The Star is a two-person keelboat designed by Francis Sweisguth in 1911, a 6.9-meter fractional sloop with a fixed keel and no spinnaker that was an Olympic class from 1932 to 2012, the longest of any class. Sailed by a helm and a crew who hikes hard on a wire, it is one of the most technical and prestigious keelboats, with its world championship for the Gold Cup contested since 1923. Many America’s Cup and Olympic medalists race it.
