Stena IceMAX
B5. Ship Types and Individual VesselsDefinition
Drillship class.
Stena IceMAX is a harsh-environment, dynamically positioned drillship operated by Stena Drilling, the first DP dual-mast ice-class drillship, built by Samsung Heavy Industries at Geoje, South Korea, in 2012 (IMO 9517575). She measures about 228 meters by 42 meters with a 19-meter molded depth, accommodates around 220 people, and works in water depths to 3,000 meters with a drilling depth to 10,700 meters. The DP3 system holds station without anchors over the well, and the twin derricks let the crew run the blowout preventer and top-hole drilling at once, cutting well time. A sister ship, Stena DrillMAX, shares the design line.
