Sub-Committee

A1. The IMO and the international regulatory framework

Definition

Subsidiary body that reports to MSC, MEPC, or both (currently seven sub-committees).

Sub-committees are the technical working bodies that report to the MSC, the MEPC, or both. After the 2013 restructuring there are seven: HTW (human element, training, watchkeeping), III (implementation), NCSR (navigation, communications, search and rescue), PPR (pollution prevention and response), CCC (carriage of cargoes and containers), SDC (ship design and construction), and SSE (ship systems and equipment). Each prepares draft amendments and guidelines for adoption by its parent committee.
