Definition

NOAA narrative supplement to nautical charts.

The United States Coast Pilot is NOAA’s series of sailing-directions volumes (nine in total) that supplement the nautical charts of US coastal and intracoastal waters with information that cannot be shown on a chart: channel descriptions, anchorages, bridge and cable clearances, pilotage and tug services, port facilities, weather, and relevant regulations. NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey updates each volume, and weekly corrections are issued through the Local Notice to Mariners. It is the US counterpart to the UKHO Admiralty Sailing Directions (Pilots).
