C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Automated Commercial Environment, US Customs system.

The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is the primary electronic system US Customs and Border Protection uses to process imports and exports and to act as the US single window for trade. Importers, brokers, and carriers file entry, entry summary, manifest, and partner government agency data through ACE rather than on paper, and CBP runs admissibility and risk screening against the same record. ACE replaced the legacy Automated Commercial System (ACS) and now interfaces with over 40 partner government agencies via the Document Image System and PGA Message Set. Most formal entries are filed by a licensed customs broker through an ACE-certified software interface.
