Aero light

An aero light is an aeronautical light, shown on a nautical chart because it is visible from seaward and useful for fixing position, but maintained for aviation rather than as a marine aid to navigation. Charts label it Aero and give the light character only when one is published; the mariner treats it as a landmark, not a sea mark, because its position, range, and reliability are set for aircraft and it may be switched off without a Notice to Mariners. The Admiralty List of Lights and the light list carry it under aeronautical lights. Use it for a bearing or a confirming fix, never as a primary lateral or cardinal reference.
